With your super fast-paced life, you’re often preoccupied with many things; your workload, relationships and adult responsibilities often take front-and-centre. Because of this, you end up neglecting yourself. You’re so focused on what other people want that you totally lose sight of your own needs and desires. Warning: you could get so burned out that you’ll end up hating what you’re doing, getting frustrated with other people, or worse, loathing yourself for it. That’s why it is important to take the time to refresh; take care of yourself, splurge on your wants and take a break. Let’s explore a few ways you can pamper yourself and show some love for Number One: YOU.
Splurge on Your Wants
You work five days, more than 40 hours every week. And you’ll likely be doing that for most of your adult life, until you retire. Yes, work is inevitable; but you can offset some of the stress by splurging on your wants, now and then. You’ve been eyeing that designer bag that you see on your way to work every day, right? Well, go ahead and buy it if you can afford it. It’s a reward; one for which you’ve been working so hard, for so long. You’ve fallen in love with that flashy set of chrome wheels for your car? Well, go ahead and get them! After all, you use your vehicle to get to work, daily. Work, reward yourself and feel good—that should be the cycle.
Take Better Care of Yourself
What’s the point of working hard all year round if you’ll just end up falling ill because you’re so overworked that your health suffers? Always take care of your health to make sure that your body is in tip-top condition. This isn’t just so you could work more hours; this is so that you have the ability to enjoy the fruits of your hard work to the fullest. There are many ways to achieve better health: eat healthy food, exercise as regularly as possible and stay active despite the sedentary office life. Do what you can to feel good about yourself. Sign up for yoga or spin classes. Treat yourself to a day at the spa or go get a well-deserved facial. Look into improving your body to boost self-confidence. Singapore has numerous options for overall self-improvement, from fat freezing technology and state-of-the-art cosmetic procedures to soul-enriching community yoga classes and other “good-for-you” activities.
Take a Break, Travel
If you’re like most hyper-focused workers, you probably have a lot of vacation days left unused. You barely use your sick days and you’re too preoccupied to take a break. It’s time to change that mindset. Those vacation days you’ve accumulated? That’s your reward for working hard. When possible, use them for some long-overdue downtime. Go and explore the world, use some of the money you’ve earned to visit new places, eat unfamiliar food and meet new people. You owe it to yourself to have a vacation at least once each year.
You work very hard like your life depended on it—in many ways, it does. But there’s more to life than your job. Learn to love yourself by spending more on your wants, taking care of your body and taking a break once in a while.
