Are you looking for a way to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without surgery?
If so, you have probably done a fair bit of research into procedures such as botulinum toxin injections. Injected into facial muscles, this toxin temporarily paralyses the nerves and allows the muscles to relax, thus preventing the deepening of wrinkles.
But what are some of the general bits of good advice to follow after you have had this simple and remarkable non-surgical treatment performed? Read on to find out!
No massages
Who doesn’t like a facial massage?
Well, if you have had Botox Dublin, you will need to avoid rubbing your face, as well as applying makeup and facial creams for at least 3 days.
This is to help the botulinum toxin to stay where it was injected, and to ensure that you get the best longevity out of having this treatment.
No drinking
It is perfectly fine to consume non-alcoholic liquids after you have had these injections.
But when it comes to drinking alcohol, you will need to avoid it for at least 24 hours. This is because alcohol consumption often increases blood pressure, leading to a higher chance of bruising. So if you are planning a night out with your friends, stick to juice!
No sun or tanning beds
Post injection, avoid the sun for at least 4 hours. This can be tricky if you are having the injections performed on a bright sunny day, so you may want to bring a sunhat to protect your skin from the UV rays.
The heat from the sun can promote flushing to the injection site(s), which can lead to higher blood pressure and thus it can worsen bruising.
While you are avoiding the sun, you may also want to avoid other sources of heat such as tanning beds, hot tubs, hot baths or showers and saunas.
No exercise
If you exercise each day, you may be puzzled as to why you are being advised by your practitioners to avoid doing so following these facial aesthetic injections.
The answer is simple; you need not to increase your blood flow too much. Doing so can cause the injected materials to move around and away from where they were placed. This can create an uneven look and will shorten the efficacy of the treatment.
So if you hit the gym every day, you are excused for the next 24 hours after the injections!
Sleep
OK, so while it can seem non-detrimental to just fall asleep after having this treatment, there are some steps you can take to prevent bruising or applying too much pressure to the treated areas.
Many cosmetic teams advise sleeping with a pillow that is elevated, to reduce the effects of gravity on the injection sites. This will prevent the injections from moving around under the skin. If possible, try to sleep on a lightweight pillow too and avoid applying any kind of pressure to the treatment site for at least 4 hours; this will help the materials to seep into your muscles, thus allowing the overall effect to last longer.
