Skincare issues are a constant battle for everyone in the family. No matter what age a person is, there will always be something to irritate the skin. For instance, babies can get diaper rash or prickly heat, kids get eczema or sunburned, teens have acne breakouts and adults have their own issues too.

Practicing a healthy skincare routine can help prevent most of these skin issues as the kids are growing up. On the other hand, it is also best to be always ready to handle any skin emergencies in the family. Here are some common ones and how you can handle them.

Acne Breakouts in Teenagers

Typically, there are two ways to address acne and pimples in teenagers. First is to be preemptive by washing the face with proper cleansers and second is to start treatment using retinol for teenage acne or even adolescents. The idea is to address the problem before it gets out of hand.

Washing the face two times a day helps remove all dirt and impurities from the skin before sleeping. If you use makeup or have sweat a lot after playing sports, it is essential that you wash gently using a gentle cleanser. As much as possible, avoid using harsh soap on your face. In case of a breakout, spot-treat them soon as they are coming about. Use products that contain a retinoid, salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide.

Kids’ Sunburn

It is common for kids to get sun-burned especially if they stay too long out in the sun. To help your child become comfortable, use cool compresses in the affected area, or give them a cooling bath. In case of pain or fever, give acetaminophen or ibuprofen. You may also apply aloe gel, topical moisturizer, or a topical pain reliever on the affected skin. In case blisters appear, avoid breaking them to prevent infection. Keep your child hydrated as they recover from getting sunburned.

Melasma in Women in their 40s

Melasma is a relatively common skin condition in women. It can appear at any age, but it may also be triggered by different factors. Some women experience changes in their skin during pregnancy due to hormonal changes. It can appear as unlikely dark spots or splotches in the face.

Apart from hormones, sun exposure is also a significant factor that contributes to this condition. Thus, to treatment and prevention, sun protection is key! Go for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with 30 SPF or higher. Apply 15 minutes before going out in the sun and reapply every two hours.

Dry Skin Issues in Men

When it comes to men, skincare is not a common drill. But if you have dry skin, you should make more effort in treating and preventing it to avoid serious problems. Use a moisturizer after washing and shaving. Ideally, stay hydrated and avoid smoking to keep your skin healthy. There are also skincare regimen products specifically designed for men.

Skin issues are very common and it pays to practice proper skincare routines early on. It can become part of your child’s habit as they grow up and they can avoid bigger skin issues when they know how to take care of the largest organ in their body. More so, you should also be prepared for various experiences where the skin is involved like scratches, rashes, sunburns, and dry skin.
